Overview
An independent label collective streamed through a clunky mobile site that buffered on stage Wi-Fi. We built Tunebox as a true companion: downloads for the commute, premiere countdowns for new videos, and rooms where artists talk to fans after shows.
Challenge
Audio had to keep playing through calls, tunnels and app switches, while video premieres needed thousands of fans pressing play at the same second. Licensing rules also limited which tracks could leave the device.
Approach
Background-audio architecture came first, UI second. We cached aggressively, streamed adaptively, and designed the player as a persistent mini-bar so navigation never interrupts listening.
Deliverables
- iOS and Android apps with offline library
- Premiere events with live chat
- Artist rooms and push announcements
- Analytics on plays, skips and saves
Outcome
Premiere nights now draw the label's biggest concurrent audiences, offline listening covers a third of all plays, and support tickets about buffering effectively vanished. Building a media app? Our app development service starts with a prototype you can hear.
